Canon’s newer EOS R cameras use the Multi-Function Shoe, a hot shoe with extra contacts for digital microphones and other accessories. The AD-E1 adapter lets Speedlites and radio transmitters built for the conventional hot shoe mount securely on these bodies, restoring a firm, reliable connection.
On the camera side it uses a multi-function foot with 15 contacts, two locking pins and a locking lever; on top it offers a conventional 5-pin hot shoe. It is powered by the camera, so there are no batteries to manage, and both connections are dust and drip resistant to the JIS class 2 standard for outdoor events.
Typical uses include fitting a Speedlite 600EX II-RT or a Speedlite Transmitter ST-E3-RT to an EOS R6 Mark II, R7 or R50, and it ships with a shoe cover. At 41g and roughly 39mm wide, it adds very little height or weight to the camera.
