The EOS R50 is built for people moving up from a smartphone who want much better photos and video without a steep learning curve. At 375g with battery and card, and paired with the 130g RF-S 18-45mm, it slips into a small bag yet uses a 24.2MP APS-C sensor many times larger than a phone’s.
Subject detection finds people, animals and vehicles and locks onto eyes automatically, so you can concentrate on the moment rather than the focus point. Bursts reach 12 fps with the electronic first curtain and 15 fps with the electronic shutter, plenty for children, pets and sport.
For creators it records 4K 30p oversampled from 6K and Full HD 120p for slow motion, with 10-bit HDR PQ available. The fully articulating 3″ touchscreen flips forward for self-filming, there is a microphone input for better sound, and the kit lens adds 4 stops of optical IS for steadier handheld footage.
