The NIKKOR Z 40mm f/2 packs a bright full-frame prime into a pocketable 170g body just 4.5cm long. Sitting between the classic 35mm and 50mm focal lengths, it borrows the strengths of both: wide enough for streets, interiors, and spontaneous moments, tight enough for natural portraits with genuine background separation. On DX bodies like the Z30 and Z50 II it becomes a 60mm-equivalent portrait prime.

Two aspherical elements keep images sharp and distortion low, while the rounded 9-blade diaphragm renders soft, pleasing bokeh, especially at close distances down to 0.29m. The stepping motor focuses quickly and near-silently with suppressed focus breathing, making this an outstanding compact video lens for gimbals and vlogging rigs. A fixed, non-extending barrel means it is always ready the moment you lift the camera.
