Moving to an EOS R mirrorless camera does not mean replacing a collection of EF and EF-S lenses. The Canon Mount Adapter EF-EOS R sits between the lens and the RF-mount body, restoring the distance the lenses were designed for, so they work as intended on the new system.
It contains no glass, so image quality and the lens’s original focal length are unchanged. The electronic connection carries autofocus, image stabilization and aperture control, and lens data is recorded with every image as normal. EF-S lenses are supported too; on full-frame bodies the camera switches to an APS-C crop to match their smaller image circle.
A rubber sealing ring helps keep out dust and water during outdoor shoots, and the adapter weighs about 110g. For owners of lenses such as the EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro, the TS-E 24mm or the EF 50mm primes, it is the simplest way to carry an existing kit forward onto a new camera body.
