Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 USM Lens

A fast 50mm is one of the most useful lenses a photographer can own, and the EF 50mm f/1.4 USM has filled that role on Canon cameras for decades. At f/1.4 it gathers twice the light of an f/2 lens, which means cleaner images in dim restaurants, churches and evening street scenes, along with genuinely shallow depth of field.

Its optical design, derived from the classic FD 50mm f/1.4, uses two high-refraction elements to control flare and astigmatism wide open, and an eight-blade diaphragm shapes the out-of-focus background. A Micro USM motor focuses quickly and quietly, with full-time manual override when you want to fine-tune by hand.

On a full-frame body it gives a natural, true-to-eye perspective for street and documentary work; on APS-C it becomes an 80mm-equivalent short telephoto ideal for head-and-shoulders portraits. Compact at 290g, it also adapts to EOS R cameras through the EF-EOS R adapter.
