The optical stabilizer gives up to 3.5 stops of shake correction, which makes handheld shots at 250mm far more reliable.

A UD element keeps color fringing under control, the front element does not rotate so polarizing filters stay put, and close focus of 0.85m across the zoom range with 0.29x magnification is useful for flowers and insects. At 375g it pairs comfortably with bodies such as the EOS 2000D, 250D and 90D.
