If a working photographer could keep only one lens, it would usually be a 24-70mm f/2.8. The RF 24-70mm f/2.8L IS USM covers wide environmental scenes, group shots, half-length portraits and detail work at a constant f/2.8, making it the default lens for weddings, events, corporate jobs and photojournalism on the EOS R system.
Unlike Canon’s earlier EF 24-70mm f/2.8 zooms, it adds optical image stabilization worth about five stops, so you can hand-hold slower shutter speeds in dim venues and record steadier video. Nano USM focuses quickly and quietly, which suits video work as much as stills.
Three glass-molded aspherical and three UD elements among its 21 elements keep the frame sharp from edge to edge, and focus down to 0.21m at 24mm with up to 0.30x magnification adds flexibility for detail shots of rings, table settings or products. It weighs 900g and takes 82mm filters.
