Fitting a whole room, a tall building or a sweeping valley into one frame is where APS-C kit lenses fall short. The EF-S 10-18mm f/4.5-5.6 IS STM provides a 16-29mm equivalent ultra-wide view at a weight of just 240g, making it one of the easiest ways to add dramatic wide-angle perspective to a Canon DSLR.
It was Canon’s first EF-S wide-angle lens with image stabilization, offering about four stops of correction, which helps with handheld interiors in low light and walking video shots. One UD and two aspherical elements, including a large plastic-molded aspherical, keep straight lines clean and limit color fringing toward the corners.
The STM motor focuses smoothly and quietly for video, and minimum focus of 0.22m lets you place a foreground subject close to the lens while the background stretches away. Real estate photographers, travelers and vloggers using an EOS 250D, 850D or 90D will find it an inexpensive route into ultra-wide shooting.
