Most owners of Canon’s APS-C mirrorless cameras start with this lens, and for good reason. The RF-S 18-45mm f/4.5-6.3 IS STM covers a 29-72mm equivalent range, from wide group shots and interiors to natural-looking portraits, and at just 130g and 44.3mm long it keeps an EOS R50, R10 or R100 genuinely small.
For vloggers and content creators, the lead-screw STM motor keeps autofocus smooth and nearly silent during recording, while the optical stabilizer delivers up to 4 stops of correction on its own, rising to 6.5 stops in combination with the in-body system of an EOS R7.
It is also surprisingly capable up close. In manual focus it focuses down to 0.15m at 18mm and reaches 0.26x magnification at 45mm, which is ideal for food, product shots and small details. A 49mm filter thread keeps ND and protective filters inexpensive.
